Smithers SteelheadsThe Smithers Steelheads Hockey Club joined the CIHL in the 2003-2004 season. Their first game was a home game against the Kitimat Ice Demons, which they won by a score of 7-5. After winning their first game, a series of losses proved to be a tough test for players, coaching staff, management and volunteers. Fortunately, fan support was incredible and sponsorship support from the local business community was amazing and continues to be so today. The team missed the play-offs that first year, but by all other accounts the Steelheads were a huge success and created an energetic buzz throughout the town of Smithers. In January of 2004 the Smithers Steelheads Hockey Club formed a non-profit society known as the Smithers Steelheads Hockey Association. The goal of the Association is "to promote community spirit, provide economic benefit to charitable organizations, and provide financial support to recreational improvement projects in the Bulkley Valley through a Men's Senior AA Hockey Club." During the its first year of operation the Association was directly responsible for over $9000 in donations to local community charities and clubs. With the overwhelming support of its fans and local businesses the Smithers Steelheads look forward to competing in the CIHL for many years to come. Past Presidents
